A Passion For Childhood Education: With Theodor and Alina Of Mind Body Soul Children’s Society
By Keith Walsh
In 2009, when entrepreneur Theodor Mikhaylov was preparing to become a father, he realized he could do better than enrolling his child in an ordinary daycare – so he started his own: Brooklyn’s Little Princeton. At the same time, Alina Nudelman, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst specializing in autism and founder of Brooklyn’s Aspiring Minds Center, was working on ways to bring her training and expertise in education and psychology to undeserved communities. Destiny brought them together as business partners, and today their Mind Body Soul Children’s Society provides excellent educational opportunities to children from 6 months to 6 years of age, with an array of classes.
As Alina and Theodor explain, their vision is to serve low income families and their communities in the years to come. The two joined forces in 2019 and now oversee dozens of classroom studios, in disciplines ranging from Ballet to Fencing, from Cooking to Martial Arts, to Math, Language, Music, and STEM, as well as hosting Parent Workshops and Mommy And
Me Classes. Mind Body Soul Children’s Society is currently under application for nonprofit status that will help bring their services to as many children as possible. Mind Body Soul Children’s Society and its three affiliated preschools pride themselves on offering accelerated learning that brings the best out of every child. One reason for the success
they’re having is the optimal student to teacher ratio. Another reason is the high standards they apply to child education. Every teacher in their facilities has at least a master’s degree, while every teachers’ assistant has at least a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in a New York City daycare before joining the organization.
“Our teachers bring out the best in every one of their students,” Alina says. “They are passionate about their work in the classroom and treat each child as an individual. Our teachers see the strengths and weaknesses in every student and they tailor each class to fit the individual strengths of each child.”
Creating Leaders Through Academics and Play
By combining a variety of hands-on teaching methods with the educational theories of leading psychologists, Mind Body and Soul offers an approach to childhood education not found anywhere else. They have developed a system that helps children form the best foundation for their school years including graduation from gifted and talented programs. One important aspect of the Mind Body and Soul approach is an emphasis on leadership skills. “I want my kids to think out of the box and be leaders,” Theodor explains.
Mind Body Soul Children’s Society has a focus on creating well-rounded children who will become advanced in social skills, and cognitive and emotional development. Their growing number of services include daycare consultation and training built on the Montessori model, a Kid’s Club with an array of classes all under one roof, and an online daycare with a downloadable curriculum for parents, daycares and educators.
In addition, Mind Body And Soul Children’s Society developing an associated special needs learning center, and hosts community outreach programs, and offers parent workshops and on-site nutritional guidance.
