What qualifications are required?
In line with NYC Department of Health Article 47 requirements:
- Teachers must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (e.g., Child Development, Psychology, Education). In some cases, ongoing enrollment in an ECE program with documented progress may be accepted.
- Assistant Teachers must have a minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent), plus prior documented experience in early childhood settings. Many of our assistants also hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- All staff must have verifiable experience working with children in a licensed daycare, preschool, or educational program.
What clearances and health requirements must be met?
Before beginning work, all teachers and assistant teachers must:
- Complete fingerprinting and criminal background checks through DOH.
- Undergo a comprehensive medical exam, including TB test and proof of required immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Influenza).
- Complete child abuse and maltreatment reporting training (Mandated Reporter Training).
- Be certified in CPR and First Aid for infants and children (renewed regularly).
What topics can I teach?
Our curriculum is inspired by Montessori, Vygotsky, and other progressive early childhood education philosophies. Together, our teachers and assistant teachers guide children through programs in:
- Early literacy, math, and science
- Music, dance, and movement
- Arts and creativity
- Physical play and motor development
- Cultural and social development activities
How does compensation work?
- Lead Teachers: up to $30 per hour (rates may vary by experience and certifications).
- Assistant Teachers: Competitive hourly rates based on experience and qualifications.
- Payments are made by-weekly via Check or direct deposit.
